Majestic China

When you hear the word “China” what’s the first few words you could think of? Mine would be Pandas, The Great Wall and the soft Steamed Bun. I had the honor to be one of the participant in this ASEAN youth camp to China with other delegates from other ASEAN countries, and this Monday morning the harmony of warm sun and cold breeze gives me the best autumn experience and off we go to the glorious Peking University to get updates about China’s reformation and the relationship between China and ASEAN that’s been growing together for some time now and also the opportunity to collide together with more improvements for the future.

Next we had a visit to the Ministry of foreign affairs of China to attend the regular press conference held by the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, His excellency Mr. LU Kang, the Director-General of Information Department of MFA. And the thing I learn from this country with the second-highest economy globally is that the government here made the media and communication to be precise and very well channeled throughout the country; and I believe this is one of the reason why China is always moving forward.

China Radio International has gone more than just being a leading radio across the country but with 65 languages of broadcast CRI is the largest among global media. CRI converges globally from their radio, movies, TV shows dubbed in various languages, with 70 overseas corresponding stations creating bonds globally and also across ASEAN membering countries through their media.

In the same day, we went to Dong Yue Temple, a Taoist temple located in Chao Yang district which is dedicated to the Mount Tai. In this historical temple we got to attend the beautiful art of tea ceremony while trying out the Chinese Traditional costume and played a small game of throwing arrows into a small vase, we also had a lot of fun trying out the artistic Chinese Calligraphy.

The next day after more than an hour drive from the city we arrived at one of the 7 world wonders. Finally, I got to put a check on my bucket list – to visit The Great Wall, this time its Simatai Great Wall which is located in Beijing. I climbed for a bit and stopped to sat on the steps to look at the view, the hills, the greens of the trees with the autumn cold breeze and a dash of warm sun, its perfect – it’s a bliss. It breathtaking, pictures of the great wall you see on papers and screens do no justice to the actual view here, and yes I will be back for another great wall adventure someday.

Gubei Water Town is located in Simatai village just right under the paths of the Great wall, it’s a reconstructed small town created with authenticity and a dash of modern touch in a scenic lakeside and bridges, creating positive vibes for the visitors as I can tell all the visitors there seemed to be really happy to be there enjoying wide variety of arts, entertainment, food and also cute pictures for some memories to take home.

Just only after a few days here throughout the events, sceneries, people, food and culture, China has captured my heart. Not only that I had a good sight and connection to this innovative country, but I also earned a group of friends from the neighboring countries by learning and enjoying each other’s differences and similarities. With this mutual understand, respect and acceptance I would say this would be a harmonious tie for the future as people-to-people cooperation is one of the most important key as this will lead to better cooperation in the future.

Grateful is the right word to explain my experience here during my camp here in China, and I can’t wait for more events of inter-country cultural cooperation like this to happen more often. This partnership and friendship that China and ASEAN has will grow better each and every day, Thank You ASEAN Youth Camp to China 2018 for the hospitality. And China, I will be back for more!
